Music for a Sunday: So, you thought Halloween was over?

Grace Jones says it isn’t…until SHE says it isn’t:

And who am I (or you, or anyone) to argue with Grace Jones?

PS: Speaking of unarguable, Calle 13 gave a free concert last night in Caracas. El Residente slapped shut the mouths of the Globomojón buffoons (who were speculating on what his next “controversial” t-shirt would say) by going shirtless. Well played, sir. Video here, for anyone interested in hot-torso shirtless action and funky raggaetón.

El Residente has an accent that sounds entirely Cuban. Is this just because he comes from a part of Puerto Rico where the accent is close to Cuban (“con lottetticuloh bien duro”, for example :)The PR accent that I know from NYC is rather different, but maybe it’s just my ignorance.

  2. Manaat says:

Ya know, the Cuban band “Orishas” is very good too …

  3. Yeah, at one point they were on stage with Calle 13, doing a mass jam.
I suspect the Nuyorican accent is different from that of the island for fairly obvious reasons…

I was waiting for Dame pa mata´la. Looks like they just decided not to perform because Molotov finished at around 1:30 and the Metro was gonna stop at 2 AM. They are cute and give excellent performances, but oh well …

  5. I guess I didn’t miss much by going to bed when I did, then. How was Molotov?

  6. Manaat says:

A mix. Some pieces weren’t particularly great, but the “cuchi cuchi” song performance was excellent, as was their other famous piece that angered GLB groups at one point (I don’t remember the name of the piece, but it has words like “puto” and the expression “matarile maricón”). So definitely a mix.

  7. I would have loved to see Pa’ Matala go head-to-head with Calle 13–maybe get the latter to chime in on “Fucking Reggaetón”. Wouldn’t that have been a gas…

  8. Manaat says:

aporrea’s right hand column is running piece after piece complaining about Calle 13’s “vulgaridad”.

  9. I must have missed something. When were they vulgar?

  10. Manaat says:

I think the sexually explicit content bothered some older folk 🙂

  11. Ah well. You see worse than that on late-night TV up here.
‘Sides, I noticed at least one older lady in the audience, rockin’ out harder than the kids!

  12. Manaat says:

That lady was an escualida from Chacao 🙂

  13. LOL!
I wonder if she was there to stuff bolivares down El Residente’s pants. Must have mistaken it for a Chippendale show.

  14. Snarla says:

Shirtless was an excellent choice. Thanks for the video.
