Fear doesn't travel well; just as it can warp judgment, its absence can diminish memory's truth. What terrifies one generation is likely to bring only a puzzled smile to the next. --Arthur Miller, "Why I Wrote 'The Crucible'", The New Yorker, October 21, 1996

In what alternate universe is this the “traditional” Venezuelan dress? I looks like another nouveau riche pieces of trashy self-promotion. Or one of the Washington Madame’s call girls.
LOL–I suspect that the region it represents is the downtown business core of Caracas. I’m surprised she isn’t wearing a replica of that tacky Pepsi ball on her head.
This isn’t based in any national region… This dress was inspired by Alejandro Otero’s “Abra Solar”, a piece of architecture found in Caracas. It is actually pretty near to where that tacky Pepsi ball used to be, Plaza Venezuela. Google “abra solar” and u’ll see some pictures. And yes, this is also part of our culture, very regional indeed.
Thanks, Alejandro. NOW it makes sense…kind of. Not quite as kitschy as the dress worn by last year’s Miss Bolivia, mind you, and that’s a GOOD thing.
