Gerry Rafferty has passed

Just learned it from the tweeter. RIP to a great musical hero. Here’s my fave of his:

That singing guitar, so sweet and understated. Perfection.

    Good call Bina
Baker Street is still my fave. Not only is this chunk of lyrics great….
He’s got this dream about buyin’ some land
He’s gonna give up the booze and the one night stands
And then he’ll settle down there’s a quiet little town
    And forget about everything
But you know he’ll always keep movin’
You know he’s never gonna stop movin
    Cus he’s rollin’
    He’s the rollin’ stone
…but Rafferty’s delivery of them in the song is sublime. FWIW Gerry Rafferty was best mates with my English Lit teacher (something we were reminded about regularly). My EngLit teacher was a genius too, but that’s another story.
    Gerry Rafferty RIP.

  2. Wow, is this world small or what? No wonder he was such a fine songwriter. Gonna have to get that record…he was woefully underplayed on Canadian radio, although the song I posted is the main one I recall.

Yes, this was a major song that moved me as a young person. Very beautiful.
This song is etched on my psyche, the saxophone in this song is sublime.
Gerry is simply rolling on…not really gone until people cease remembering his songs.
