Excellent post. Here in the US I noticed peculiar comment
patterns over @Yahoo News leading up to the elections
in Nov 2010. Comment sections can be filled with nasty
stuff and it’s to be expected.
In this case, on numerous occasions I would see about 20
one line right wing comments of attacks designed to make
your hair stand up. Then, a long serious articulate comment complaining about “intolerant” elitist liberals spouting
ad hominem insults at the right in their comments.
This was followed by more right wing one liners and
then a similar long comment saying essentially the same thing.
There were few left wing comments. Now, magically, there
actually are quite a few at Yahoo News. Yahoo has been
accused of rigging their comments.
IMO, what I was reading was a collection of the best,
most graphic one liners from various writers
followed by a long comment attempting to compensate,
typically, by accusing and blaming the left of exactly
what these writers were doing. In the states this is a kind
of preemptive strike to cut off attacks from the opposition.
It might be a software program done at the touch of
the send key. The barely contained violence against
President Obama did not stop at assassination.
Alternet had an article concerning veterans and servicemen
and predatory mortgage lending that indicted the industry.
In the comments, sure enough, were comments, supposedly
by veterans, attacking the war effort and veterans in
general. Not just one or two but several in a short
time span. What would be the best way of discrediting
the article as well as the liberal site for veterans or anyone
else?
Makes you think about how many email threats
Rep. Gabrielle Giffords received between the time
she went on MSNBC in March to complain about
what her colleagues called the worst political
atmosphere in 30 years and the Nov elections.
Her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly and her father
know exactly where they came from, ideologically.
