I like Charlie Pierce’s take that the gun problem is as much about the profits as it is about the wingnuts. And I love XTC. English Settlement is one of the best albums ever.

It totally is! The gun industry has very astutely fed into the paranoid fantasies of the wingnuts, and very helpfully undermined all gun legislation to the point where most of it is effectively meaningless. This of course so that everyone who wants a gun, can get their hands on it, even if they’re not the sharpest tool in the shed. What happens after that doesn’t matter; what matters is selling, selling, selling guns.

And yes, English Settlement is a brilliant record. I’ve loved XTC for more than 30 years now, and that record is the first of theirs I bought. In cassette and CD.
